Note for the Pearl Jam crew

Drummers: go over all of your endings and structures in general. For the songs that there are two of you on, make sure you communicate about how you're going to do the fills and when you're going to do the fills.

Singers: you should have all of your lyrics memorized by next rehearsal.

Keys: review structures, listen to the songs more often so you know when to play.

Guitarists: start thinking about pedals and tone / feel. Make a list of the pedals that you need and start getting used to making the pedals sound exactly how you need them to for each song.

Overall: we are in a pretty good spot but there is still a lot of room to grow. Listen to your songs often throughout the week.

Note for Gorillaz crew

Doooooods!!

Even though we had a few absences, last night's rehearsal was pretty good! Everyone improved and every song was farther than last time. I'm going to add a couple new tunes this weekend, so check back. Vocalists should try to memorize lyrics ASAP. Drummers need to hit harder and practice with a metronome ALL THE TIME. All you keyboardists have a really complicated show ahead, so just keep plugging away each day. I'll try to add a bunch of patches to the list this week, so that should get a little easier. Overall, we're on the right track!

If you guys keep up the hard work, we'll be able to add a bunch of songs and this show will rule. Keep working hard!

Note for the Women of the 21st Century crew

Things are progressing really well considering the massively poor attendance we’ve experienced.  Structure issues are minimal and are detail oriented like stops and things like that.  Again, the students that have been there are holding it down. Guitarists should start figuring out tones/pedals. Drummers need to hit harder and continue to work on fills. Vocals need to memorize lyrics ASAP so you can stop reading and work on tone and feel. Keyboardists need to work on solos and patches (when you find a good one, write it down!!). Bassists need to make sure they’re learning the actual bass parts, not just the roots of the progressions (seriously!!).  Overall, I feel like we’re on the right track, but we really need to keep pushing forward.

Hopefully most of you are back in town from the 4th of July and your attendance will be stellar from now on! Do your best to be here all as much as humanly possible!!

Keep up the hard work! See you on Saturday!

This show requires an insane number of keyboards, so we need a chart to keep organized. It's posted now, but will get updated with patch numbers as we move through the season.

ALSO, I bought us an incredible new toy to use for our show. This thing is amazing and you get to use it on Wednesday!!

Tour Audition info!

You want to come tour with us? Awesome! We are looking for 2 guitarists and 1 bassist. Because of the short time frame, you’ll have to email us your audition.

-Make a video no longer than 5 minutes that includes:
-Your name, your teacher's name, and why you want to go on tour
-All of “London Calling” by The Clash. You can play this with the track.
-60 seconds of a solo piece (of your choice).  You cannot play this with a track.
We’re looking for players who can learn a ton of material very, very quickly, put on an incredible show, and are great band members. Make sure your audition shows that!

The one catch is that your solo piece CANNOT be something you’re learning for your current Season Show.

The video must be submitted no later than 11:59pm Sunday, May 13th.

If selected, you’ll have a weekly rehearsal (mostly at your home school, but there will be a couple at the other school) and will be required to play the remaining HB shows.

If you haven’t already, check out the doc at the very bottom of the House Band tab on the Support Site for all the tour info.

If you have any questions, ask us right away!

SUMMER SHOWS 2018 - School of Rock San Diego

*All shows will perform in September! Details coming very soon!

EPIC ALBUM: REGATTA DE BLANC by The Police (Plus other Police classics!)

Directed by Shelbi Bennett, Assisted by Danny Ellis
Rehearses: Mondays from 5:15-8:15pm
First Rehearsal: Monday June 11th

It is insane how many hits these guys wrote in such a short time period and Regatta de Blanc is arguably their greatest record. Besides awesome guitar parts and great songs, this album features some of the greatest drum parts ever played. After we finish the record, we’ll add a bunch of other Police favorites. This is a classic!

GORILLAZ

Directed by Tyler Ward, Assisted by Shelbi Bennett
Rehearses: Wednesdays from 5:15-8:15pm

First Rehearsal: Wednesday June 13th

After years of waiting, we’re finally doing a Gorillaz show! This one will have TONS of keys, really interesting sounds, groovy drums, and some of the biggest hits of the last 20 years. This band creatively blends HipHop, Rock, Punk, Pop, World Music, and turns it into something you’ve never heard before. This one is going to be crazy.

WOMEN OF THE 21st CENTURY

Directed by Jenny Merullo, Assisted by Robert Martinez
Rehearses: Saturdays from 11am-2pm
First Rehearsal: Saturday June 16th

This is a great way to spotlight some of the most incredible women of this century. We’ll feature songs by St Vincent, TuneYards, Paramore, Amy Winehouse, Tegan & Sara, La Luz, Chastity Belt, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sleater Kinney, Screaming Females, Savages, Grimes, and tons more. This is great for students who love bands from the 2000s!

PEARL JAM

Directed by Andrew Steele, Assisted by Damon Delapaz
Rehearses: Saturdays from 3:30-6:30pm

First Rehearsal: Saturday June 16th

Have we really never done a full Pearl Jam show? It’s time to fix that. This is truly one of the great rock bands of our time. If you only know the early hits from their career, you’re in for a surprise. There are more hits than we can possibly include, and all of them have great guitar solos, and awesome drum/bass parts. These guys are rock royalty!
