TV Themes updated!

Here’s the deal. This is going to be a VERY different kind of show, and we need to work out a lot of things before casting tons of parts. I put everyone on one relatively easy part to get started and then we’ll really open the flood gates on Wednesday after we meet each other and start to make our plans for the show. This is going to be crazy fun, but really difficult to organize.

Learn your part and make a list of your absolute favorite TV Themes to share with everyone on Wednesday. See you then!

Initial cast lists are posted (but TV is coming tomorrow). This gets everyone 2 or 3 songs to get started. More coming soon!

SUMMER SHOWS 2019 ANNOUNCED!

*All shows will perform the weekend of September 21st and 22nd
at the Copley Auditorium @SD Museum of Art

WOODSTOCK (50th Anniversary!)

Directed by Damon De La Paz, Assisted by George Pritzker
Rehearses: Mondays from 5:15-8:15pm
First Rehearsal: Monday, June 10th

This is the most legendary concert of all time. It includes songs by Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Santana, Joan Baez, Canned Heat, CCR, Sly and the Family Stone, CSNY, Jefferson Airplane, and many, many, many more. This is kind of like a “Best of the 60s” show, except that they all played at the same show. This is one of the greatest shows that we offer and if you haven’t spent time with any of these artists, now is the time!!

BEST OF THE 2010s

Directed by Jenny Merullo, Assisted by Robert Martinez
Rehearses: Saturdays from 11am-2pm
First Rehearsal: Saturday, June 15th

As our current decade comes to a close, it’s time to look back on the great musical contributions of the last 10 years. This show will feature a wide variety of artists from a ton of different backgrounds and genres. We’re looking at artists like: Tame Impala, St Vincent, Grimes, Frank Ocean, Charles Bradley, Chance the Rapper, Off!, White Denim, Ty Segall, Daft Punk, Tuneyards, Red Fang, Dirty Projectors, Queens of the Stone Age, Father John Misty, Gorillaz, Run The Jewels, Bowie, Kendrick Lamar, Ariel Pink, Vampire Weekend, Flaming Lips…. Who knows??

THE BIG 4

Directed by Andrew Steele, Assisted by Damon DeLaPaz
Rehearses: Saturdays from 3:30-6:30pm
First Rehearsal: Saturday, June 15th

Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer. Challenging. Brutal. Amazing.

TV THEME SONGS

Directed by Tyler Ward,
Rehearses: Wednesdays from 5:15-8:15pm
First Rehearsal: Wednesday, June 12th

Is this really happening?! Yes, we are finally doing a TV Theme Songs show against my better judgement. Will it be fun? For sure. Will it be challenging? You have no idea. Every great TV theme song has a verse, prechorus, chorus, and bridge, but it only lasts 45 seconds. This means, we’ll have to learn FOUR TIMES the amount of material to fill up a regular show length. This show should be for people with tons of SoR experience and loads of theory knowledge as there will be no tabs or sheet music to help us along the way. Yikes!!

SPRING SHOWS 2019 ANNOUNCED!

SPRING SHOWS 2019

School of Rock San Diego

*All shows will perform in June. Details coming very soon!

HISTORY OF INDIE ROCK

Directed by Danny Ellis, Assisted by Damon DeLaPaz

Rehearses: Mondays from 5:15-8:15pm

First Rehearsal: Monday, February 4th

Think of this one as the sequel to our beloved History of Punk show. The “Indie” rock movement carried the same Punk spirit from the 70s into a new decade and inspired countless bands and fans. This show will look at the trailblazers from the 80s like Black Flag, Minutemen, REM, Replacements, Husker Du, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Smiths, Slint, Fugazi, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, Descendents, Camper Van Beethoven, and a ton more! If you missed out on the Punk show, do this one! If you were in the Punk show, do this one too!

THE STROKES

Directed by Jenny Merullo, Assisted by Robert Martinez

Rehearses: Saturdays from 11am-2pm

First Rehearsal: Saturday, February 9th

We’ve been hoping to do this one for a long, long time. This band came out of nowhere and became one of the biggest bands of the 2000s overnight. We all love their singles, but the rest of their songs are just as catchy! This show will include all their biggest hits, including their entire 1st record from top to bottom!

QUEEN

Directed by Andrew Steele, Assisted by Damon DeLaPaz

Rehearses: Saturdays from 3:30-6:30pm

First Rehearsal: Saturday, February 9th

Queen. This will be very demanding and rewarding. That is all.

SONGWRITING/RECORDING

Directed by Tyler Ward, Assisted by Shelbi Bennett

Rehearses: Wednesdays from 5:15-8:15pm

First Rehearsal: Wednesday, February 6th

5th annual! Students spend their rehearsals writing, arranging and practicing original songs. At the end, they'll go to a studio and make a record! This is primarily for students who have been at the school for a while and are pretty far along on their instruments. This group will have a smaller cap (around 10) and members need approval from their teacher and music director to join. The registration fee will be higher because of the added costs of studio rental. Details to come.
